This has been a very productive and eventful past few months, for some of our most enthusiastic voluteerworkers, and thier helpers. They have done such a great job cleaning , clearing invasives and planting a variety of new vegetation.
When these plants, trees, schrubs, flowers reach their growing potentials, they will bring a variety of wildlife to feed, and enjoy all year long. the flowers that are now just about dried up ,such as the cone flower, and many others will feed the birds through the cold winter months,as well as giving some habitat for others.
We still haveour original members and their same friends who gather to help with our areas of greenway, but are still looking for more voluteers to take on the task for alot of other areas. This is a HUGE area to get under control, and we would like to extend the invitation to all the residents in our area to get out there and and walk down to Moore Park and follow the path and clean up as you are enjoying your stroll. We are still waiting for our Sign to Dedicate the greenway at the entrance, down at Moore Park .If you truly want to get involved take a weekly walk down behind the park and take along a garbage bag and some pruning shears ans help clean and clear an area and let us know about your adventure.Don't forget your gloves.
We burn all the twigs and small branches in our backyard firepits, when the conditions are right.
Watch out for the hunters and have a great Holiday Season.

    Hello Everyone,
we have had a few months of alot of cleaning ,clearing, and preparing for our fall season. we have been overwelmed with the invasive growth of various species this year from all the early and steady rains, that we have had. after clearing and planting in several places we need to expand our areas until they can maintain themselves, from being eaten to people stomping and breaking seedlings, from not paying attension to where they are or what they just walked over or broke off for various reasons, that we don't know.we will keep on with our endevors of making our Greenway a place that people will enjoy seeing. we would like to get some big sponsor groups involved to help plant new varieties of trees, flowers etc. to help regenerate and establish themselfs in this area,so if anyone knows of some enviromentalist corps. that would like to hold hands with our poject, put them in touch with our group, so that we can make use of some better resources. Our vollunteering and using our own labor and funds ,we can only do so much. but we are doing it

    Hello,
    Spring is here..
I tried to submit a letter and also update our site a feww weeks ago and was told it was taken down. Thanks to my neighbor and fellow greenway supporters ,her family logged on and told me it was up and running as of last week. I had a difficult time trying to tell certain individuals of our continued work and support ,that we have put countless time, energy, expence, from the integrity and moral standards we have to better our neighborhood at little area at a time. As we ask all residents and visitors to our neighborhood to pitch in and give us a hand.we only have about another 60 acres to go . I know alot of people think a greenway is a piece of land that will thrive on it's own, but from past experience and first hand knowledge we know that isn't true.
You have to maintain the trails, invasive spieces, some of nature's roadblocks, and debris from people that abuse and trash our backyards. Our initiative was to make this area an asset to our neighborhood and possibly be able to walk with nature ,and coexist with wildlife in a city with to much sprawl. We have 60 acres 2 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, that will someday be a major asset to the South hills community if given the right attention, like we have been doing for almost a decade now.
We live with Nature, and they with us with no boudaries, or limitations set . Only the ones set by our Lord. for all to enjoy.

    Hello Spring, April 1, 2011
It seems that every year it takes this season longer and longer to arrive. We have been working throughout the fall, winter seasons to help irradicate, invasive species, clear debris and make homes for the wildlife ,allwhile cleaning and moving debris. There is still so much to be done with our greenway, and we need help and finances from our local government and our councilwoman. the overgrowth and other negative impacts that we are dealing with like dumping, natures microburst, downed trees will take 100s of years to regenerate without our help. we need to get some machines and manpwer from our city to help with the progress that we manully do every week ,so that we may make a major impact from the time and effort that we are using. with help of machinary we can show and make a great difference, rather than the slow path that we have been taking and then mothernature throws us anther obstacle. we are loosing alot of the wooded areas that connect us with the adjoining wooded areas from various projects that are now in play, so keep your eyes and ears open to anything that you may see happening around your neighborhood that was not brought to your attention from a property owner or the municilpality. If you are out walking the wooded greenway always take along a little bag and pick up any litter along the way .every luittle bit helps. Also for all people living by the greenway try and clear and keep those invasive species from taking over, the more people we get to help the faster we will have our Diamond in the ruff to enjoy as a natural park setting working with nature.

Happy 4th from the moore park greenway volunteers,
we have been working for 4 months trying to keep up with the rain, and getting some plantingsin as well as alot of seeds spread.
the rebound after winter and the wet spring has been hard to deal with, but we did clean and clear large areas og neglected overgrown invasivesfrom going further and ruining anything else that we need to grow and prosper in our vast wildlife area.
we still need new volunteers, we have been working with the same concerned citizens, with no other help but what we can do.there are some who just dont want or care how things look when we are improving the area for people to look at and enjoy, but will take negative steps to work against what we have been doing for the past decade, and longer for some to make this entire area a great backyard to all. so we will continue to work and make positive strides to accomplish our goal to have a beautifulgreenwayadjacent to all of our homes in this area of brookline beechview, and the 51 area. we are always out there working, so if you want to help just stop when you see someone working in a wooded area and ask if they would like some help. get involved. tell everyoneto get out there and do somthing. there are still alot a individuals who do not want us to have an asset in our neighborhood.
